필라델피아 주의 남동부에 있는 도시로 레딩(Reading)은 인구 8만 1207명 규모의 도시입니다. 지명은 영국 버크셔주에 있는 펜 가문의 고향 이름에서 유래했다고 하네요~ 이 지역 주변에는 Penn State University, Berks Campus, Albright University, Albany University 등 대학이 있습니다. Holy Name은 1964년에 설립된 남녀공학 카톨릭 학교로 현재 총 523명의 학생이 재학하고 있는 학교입니다. 교사 대 학생비율은 1: 14 정도이며 학비는 $4,960(2005-2006)로 시설에 비해 매우 저렴한 학교입니다. 학교 내에서는 공지사항과 알림을 TV 화면을 통해 학생들에게 전달하여 많은 학생들이 볼 수 있도록 하고 있으며 도서관과 음악관 등 전체적으로 시설이 좋은 편이었습니다.
학교생활을 돕기 위해 클럽활동을 제공하고 있는데 Chorus, Model UN, Holy Name National Honor Society, The Holy Name herald, Respect for life Club, Service Club, Spanish Club, Peer Listening Program(Talk about Problems, TAP), Tutoring, Yearbook 에서 학생들이 함께 서로의 문제를 이야기하고 들을 수 있는 TAP 는 또래들이 모여 문제에 대해 이야기 하며 서로 상대방의 이야기를 들어줄 수 있는 “Good listener” 가 되는 시간입니다. 또한 Holy Name 학교의 The National Honor Society는 모든 학생의 학업에 도움을 주기 위해 개별적인 도움을 주고 있습니다. 교사, 부모, 학생간에 어떤 분야든지 도움을 요청할 수 있습니다. 전체 상위 25% 학생의 SAT 성적은 1219점, 상위 50%는 1130점으로 매년 졸업생의 90% 이상이 4년제 대학으로 진학하고 있습니다. 이 학교는 무엇보다도 Honors, AP(Advanced Placement) 그리고 College Prep 과정이 제공되고 있어 학생이 폭넓은 선택을 할 수 있습니다.
