사우스 다코타 주의 면적은 19만 6,715km²이며, 인구는 약 80만 명 정도 된다. 주도는 피어스이다. 지리학상으로 미국 중앙대평원 북부에 위치하고 있다. 북쪽은 노스다코타, 서쪽은 와이오밍, 동쪽은 미네소타 그리고 남쪽으로는 네브래스카 주와 인접해 있다.
사우스 타코타의 유명한 도시는 래피드 시티로 미국 전직 대통령들의 얼굴이 새겨진 큰 바위산으로 유명하다. 래피드 시티(Rapid City)는 사우스다코타(South Dakota)주에서 두 번째로 큰 도시로 우리에게도 '큰 바위 얼굴'로 잘 알려진 러쉬모어산(Mount Rushmore)이 지역 최대의 관광명소이다. 이 밖에도 블랙 힐스 국립 삼림지(Black Hills National Forest)의 풍부한 야생동식물, 광산의 화려한 역사 등으로 연간 4백 만 명 이상의 관광객들이 몰려오는 곳이다. Blue Ribbon School로 선정되었으며 2004-2005년에 Top 50 에 안에 선정된 카톨릭 남녀공학 고등학교입니다. 1961년에 설립되었으며 총 학생수는 9 -12학년까지 입니다. 총 학생수가 700여명 정도이며 교사와 학생 비율이 1:12.6입니다. ** Blue Ribbon School 이란? 영어의 뜻으로 Blue Ribbon은 최고, 최상이라는 의미이며, 미국 교육부에서 우수 학교 지정프로그램으로 1982년부터 시행하여 우수학교 발굴, 우수학교 기준제공과 각 학교 격려 차원에서 시작한 것으로 학교 성적수준, 교사 자질 등을 기준으로 평가하고 있습니다. 학교도서관은 오전 7시 30분부터 오후 4시까지 이용이 가능하며 참고서, 인터넷 사용이 가능하며 점심은 학교 카페테리아를 이용할 수 있습니다.
